I recently did a drip marble design I was so happy with, so today I want to give you tips on drip marble manicures (also called fluid art manicures).
I loved this drip marble design, it came out better than my past ones.
I loved this drip marble design, it came out better than my past ones. First of all if you're new to this style, it's where you drop several polishes on a silicone mat (or a ziploc bag should work) and smush them together to get a nice design.
Some people create decals - let the design dry and put it on their nails, but personally I find this technique time-consuming and difficult, especially since I have such curved nails. I like to pick it up with a stamper and let it dry one minute before stamping it on my nails.
Usually you would use a 'spot' nail polish, like Dance Legend Spot It, which comes in different colors and is available at several of the stores listed in my ebook (sign up in the sidebar to get it free). You can do it without, but the spot polish creates some really nice cells and designs.
If you don't have access to Spot It polish, Instagram nail artist @damningeden came up with this trick, she posts about it here. Basically you put 1/2 to 1 pump of a silicone based hair serum like Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Anti-Frizz into a bottle of polish and it becomes a spot polish. Just make sure to empty out some polish if it's new, so there's space for the serum.
I've yet to try this trick but everyone seems to be loving it! I just bought this serum yesterday so I'll let you know how it goes.
I was so happy with the pink drip marble I did above - it came out much better than ones I've done in the past, so I asked myself what I did differently to get such nice patterns.
These didn't come out as nicely as the pink one above.
Previously I'd just dripped the spot polish along with the regular polish, as you can see in my older drip marble video tutorial. (here)
But this time I swiped the polish onto the silicone mat, and dripped the other polishes on top. Then I put a few more drops of the spot polish on top. It went really well! You can watch that here.
I hope this is helpful for you - drip marbles are really fun, you don't need special polishes or equipment and they look super cool.
Have a great July and see you in August!
Love and lacquer,
Michele
